Ellis gets first PSM No. 1 qualifier since 2008

Chip Ellis is the No. 1 qualifier at the 46th annual Toyota NHRA Summernationals. This is his first Pro Stock Motorcycle No. 1 qualifier since Memphis in 2008.

This is his 14th of his PSM career. He had a 197.16 at 6.801. He will face off against Angie Smith in the first round.

Jerry Savoie, the Gator Hunter, is second with a 6.804. He will face Joe DeSantis, who had a 6.930.

Hector Arana, who won his first race recently in years, is third with a 6.815. Shawn Gann will face the Lucas Oil Products driver in the first round.

Karen Stoffer, who is running here for the first time in years, is fourth. Stoffer will face Matt Smith, the former World Champion tomorrow.

Jimmy Underdahl is fifth with a 6.835. He will face Angelle Sampey, who moved up from 13th to 12th for the show.

Sampey, who is not sure about the future sponsorship of Star Racing, previously won here from the 13th position.

Hector Arana Jr. was the provisional No. 1 qualifier last night. But he fell to sixth and will now face veteran Steve Johnson.

Local driver Eddie Krawiec is seventh and will face Scotty Pollacheck. The follow pairing will be LE Tonglet and Andrew Hines.
