A month ago, it was looking like Karl-Anthony Towns was going to go No. 2 to the Los Angeles Lakers. However, according to a CBSSports.com report, they haven’t even worked out the former Kentucky Wildcats player.
Towns, who went to St. Joseph’s High School in Metuchen, New Jersey, hasn’t worked out for the Lakers, as they haven’t been able to secure a workout. Less than a week is the NBA Draft, as it is Thursday night in New York.

While recent mock drafts link Towns to the Minnesota Timberwolves, we won’t know what will happen until Thursday night – or at least Thursday morning if someone leaks what they’re going to do. The Wolves have been secret on if it will be Towns or Jahlil Okafor, who was the early favorite to go No. 1.

Towns reportedly met with the Wolves President/Part-Owner/Coach Flip Saunders and his staff today. It is not surprising, as players are always working out with teams leading up to the draft.
But if he is indeed spurring the Lakers, that would be very surprising. That’s because if he doesn’t go to the Wolves, this move could cause him to fall in the draft – maybe to the Philadelphia 76ers with the third pick or the New York Knicks with the fourth pick.

It wouldn’t be surprising if the Wolves will be quit until the time they have to draft. It’s either going to be Towns, who we’ve covered several times in high school, or Okafor with the top pick.
According to many NBA executives, there’s a major gap between these two guys and the rest of the draft, which is expected to start with D’Angelo Russell, the former Ohio State Buckeyes guard, who has been linked to the 76ers with the third pick.
If Towns goes to the Timberwolves, he will be joining a team that went 16-66 during the 2014-15 season. If he goes to the Lakers, he’ll be joining a team that went 21-61 during the same season.
Towns camp could be receiving information that we do not know. If he’s not working out for the Lakers, it only means that he could be the No. 1 overall pick.
