The Philadelphia Eagles knew they were taking a gamble when the team decided to take a trade for injured QB Sam Bradford from the St. Louis Rams. He hasn’t been able to take any snaps in practice so far.

There’s talk that he could be cleared for camp when training camp starts in early August. However, with the gamble, they also traded away Nick Foles and a second round pick.

With Bradford not being cleared to participate right now, one has to wonder if Bradford will be the starting quarterback of the team moving forward. I can assure you that Bradford was not acquired to ride the bench, as there are reports that he could easily win the job when he does come back.

Yet, that is the reality that the team could very well be facing, as reports that Mark Sanchez was impressive in his second year under head coach Chip Kelly’s offense. If this is true, Bradford is going to be in trouble of getting the job.

Bradford, who is making $13 million, would likely request a trade should Sanchez be named the starter. This, of course, is if he’s healthy, as that is something he hasn’t been able to do the past two seasons following back-to-back torn ACL’s that cost him part of the 2013 season and all of last season.

Sanchez was the Eagles starter following an injury to Foles and he was able to finish out the season, before missing the playoffs. Philadelphia finished with a 10-6 record, as the Dallas Cowboys won the Division, which caused the Birds to miss the playoffs.

Time will tell what happens next. But one has to wonder since Sanchez is taking all the snaps and Bradford continues to fall behind, if Kelly will just name Sanchez the starting quarterback regardless of the plans that the Eagles had when the team made the trade on the opening day of free agency to get the former St. Lous Rams signal caller.
