Yoel Romero may be learning how to speak English. However, his fight game speaks in all languages.
Romero was able to down out Lyoto Machida at UFC Fight Night from Hollywood, Florida with the win coming at 1:38 into the third round. Romero, who was listed as the underdog, was the 6th ranked fighter in his class, while Machida was fourth.
With this loss to Romero, the two will likely switch positions. One has to think what is next for Machida, who is nearing the end of his career.
The 38-year-old “The Solider of God” improved to 10-1 in his career. In addition, he has five knock outs in six UFC fights in the middle weight class.
The 37-year-old Machida dropped to 22-7. Romero is on a six win streak, which only American Chris Weidman has the longest active streak at 9.
The fight was slow and many said that Machida won the first round. Then, in the second, Romero won the round, except he didn’t take down Machida.
He finally took him down in the third round, and that would lead to his knock out win.
