Dodgers give Puig the day off

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without outfielder Yasiel Puig this afternoon. He’s not in the starting lineup at Citizen Bank Park against the Philadelphia Phillies.

It is just a day off for Puig, who can still come off the bench as a pinch hitter. Last night, he hit a three-run home run in the team’s win.

In his place, Carl Crawford is starting in left field, while Andre Either is starting in right.

The 24-year-old, who was being considered for possible trades last week at the trade deadline, has a .252 batting average with eight home runs and 29 RBI’s in 218 at-bats.

Last night’s home run was his first since July 29th against the Oakland Athletics when he also hit a three-run home run. However, since July 28th, he only has one other game – July 31st against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim – where he had an RBI.
