Helton gets first win in the Trojans big win over the Utes

The Southern California Trojans (4-3) have been a mess as of late. However, they showed the distractions are over.

The Los Angeles-based team took the Utah Utes (6-1) from the ranks of undefeated with the 42-24 win at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliesum.

This is the team’s first win since they fired Steve Sarkisian due to his alcohol problems. Interim head coach Clay Helton picked up the win.

Britain Covey scored on a 66-yard touchdown reception from Travis Wilson (42-24). Also, in the fourth quarter, JuJu Smith-Schuster caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Cody Kessler.

Kessler then added a one-yard touchdown in the third (35-17).

Utes kicker Andy Phillips made a 53-yard field goal in the second quarter. However, this quarter was dominated by the home team, who scored 21-points.

Cameron Smith picked off Wilson for a 54-yard pick six. Ronald Jones II had an 18-yard rushing touchdown and Soma Vainuku added a one-yard touchdown.

Bubba Poole scored on a two-yard run for the Utes to go up 14-7. Covey also added a 30-yard TD from Wilson to tie the game at 7.

Justin Davis gave the Trojans the early 7-0 lead with a nine-yard TD.
