The Baylor Bears have received bad news about their freshman quarterback. Jarrett Stidham, who was the backup that replaced injured Seth Russell, is out of the remainder of the season.

Stidham suffered a broken ankle in Saturday’s game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. He reportedly suffered a broken bone in the back of his ankle.

The true freshman was able to limp off the field after being injured right before halftime. The Bears won 45-35, which was their first win in Stillwater since 1939.

He’s also reportedly dealing with back and hand issues.

Now the Bears will move onto their third quarterback of the season. Chris Johnson will get the job, as the redshirt sophomore replaced Stidham.

He is a converted wide receiver, and they’re hoping that he can produce like another converted wide receiver has done for another Texas team. Trevone Boykin was a converted wide receiver for the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs and became a Heisman candidate before being injured.

Johnson threw for 138 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

Stidham started the previous three games, but appeared in all 10 games. He threw for 1,265 yards and 12 touchdowns as he has a bright future.

Stidham became the Bears quarterback after Russell fractured a vertebra in his neck during Baylor’s win over the Iowa State Cyclones.
