The Portland Thunder had acquired quarterback Shane Austin. The All-Arena comes to the Great Northwest after playing for the Cleveland Gladiators.
Austin will be entering his fourth season within the Arena Football League and played with the Gladiators the past two seasons.
“We’re thrilled to add Shane to our roster,” head coach Andy Olson stated. “He has been a top quarterback in this league for the last two years, and aside from his great passing ability, he can extend plays with his pocket presence and mobility. We expect him to come in hungry, and raise the level of play for us.”
He had a 23-13 record with the Gladiators. However, last season, he split time with Chris Dieker.
During his first season with the team, he guided the team to the ArenaBowl, which was located in Cleveland. However, they lost to the Arizona Rattlers, which was their last of three straight ArenaBowl Championships.
This is a key addition as Austin is one of the best quarterbacks in the game when he’s on his game. This past season, he had 416 completions, which was the most and second in passing touchdowns with 101.
He’s going to be the Thunder’s starting quarterback next season. This will be his first time playing outside of the American Conference.
Before going to the Gladiators, he played a season with the Pittsburgh Power in 2013.
