Oakland Raiders safety Charles Woodson has announced his plans to retire after this season. He’ll play the team’s final two games before stepping away from the game.
Woodson was one of the best NFL defensive backs during his 18-year tenure. He began his career with the Raiders, before signing with the Green Bay Packers and coming back home.

He’ll be a Hall of Fame candidate when his career finally ends. He was an eight-time Pro Bowl and also received first-team All-Pro recognition three-times.

His contract expires after this season. The 39-year-old signed a contract with the team in January to stay one more season.
He moved from corner back to safety before the 2012 season. He was one of the best safety upon the switch.
Woodson was voted as a member of the 2000’s All-Decade team and has 65 career interceptions. The 65 picks are the most of all active players and it ties him for fifth all-time.
He has five picks this season and 10 overall since re-joining the Raiders in 2013. He spent seven seasons with the Packers, including winning a Super Bowl with the team in 2011.

The Raiders drafted Woodson with the 4th overall pick in the 1998 draft. As a cornerback with the Packers in 2009, he was the Defensive Player of the Year.
In 1997, Woodson won the first-ever Heisman as a defensive player. He was mainly a defensive player when he won even though he was a two-player with the Michigan Wolverines while in college.
