The Clemson Tigers advance to the College Football Playoff National Championship game. They defeated the Oklahoma Sooners, 37-17.
The Tigers will face the winner of the Michigan State Spartans/Alabama Crimson Tide in the National Championship game from the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The championship game will start at 8:30 pm on ESPN on Jan. 11th.
The Tigers won a national championship in 1981 during that season’s undefeated season. They are 14-0 this season and another win would be their sixth undefeated season.
The Tigers scored 17 unanswered points to win over second half. Wayne Gallman scored on a four-yard run in the fourth quarter to make it 37-17.
Gallman also had a one-yard run in the third to make it 23-17. Hunter Renfrow made it 30-17 when he caught a 35-yard touchdown reception.
The Sooners had the lead at halftime when Mark Andrews caught an 11-yard touchdown reception for the 17-16 lead.
Deshaun Watson, the Tigers Heisman Trophy quarterback, had the other touchdown in the quarter. He scored on a five-yard run to begin the second quarter.
Greg Heugel made two field goals for the Tigers. He made a 36-yard field goal and a 43-yard field goal in the quarter.
Oklahoma also had a field goal as Austin Seibert made a 22-yarder.
Huegel made a 26-yard field goal to cut the lead to 7-3 in the first quarter. Sooners running back Samaje Perine scored on a one-yard run for the early 7-0 lead.
