As expected, Texas Christian University Horned Frogs have suspended quarterback Trevone Boykin for Saturday’s game against the Oregon Ducks in the Alamo Bowl. Bram Kohlhausen will get the start.
He saw time earlier this season when Boykin was injured. The senior will have a huge task at hand, as the Horned Frogs deal with the Ducks high-octane offense.
Boykin was arrested early this morning in San Antonio, Texas following a bar fight. He has been charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and public intoxication, according to ESPN.
Before 2 am central time, he is alleged to have been in an altercation at Pat O’Brien’s, a bar. A group of patrons, who were also at the bar, recognized him and began talking trash to him.
Boykin did not like what they were saying. The 22-year-old was with a group of teammates when this incident happened.
The two sides were removed from the bar when a scuffle reportedly took place. He’s accused of striking a bar employee, then the fight continued outside.
Once the San Antonio police arrived at the scene, they tried to break up the fight. At this time, Boykin reportedly threw a punch, which is being called “indiscriminate,” that hit one of the officers.
He was arrested after the officers threatened to use a stun gun on him.
The TCU Horned Frogs Athletic Department has released a statement about the situation:
“We are aware of a situation last night and are gathering information. We will continue to closely monitor this and evaluate additional details as they become available.”
This season, the one-time Heisman candidate, threw for 3,575 yards with 31 touchdowns. He also had 10 interceptions.
