Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has been activated to play in today’s NFC Divisional Round game against the Carolina Panthers. This will be a big boost to the Seahawks’ offense against the Panthers’ defense.
He’s missed the previous eight games after dealing with an abdominal injury. There was some thought that he would give it a go last Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings; however, that did not happen.

Last week, the Seahawks had to share the rock with a variety of runners. Christine Michael — who came back to Seattle after being traded to the Dallas Cowboys earlier in the season — led the team with 70 yards.

Russell Wilson also had 21 yards and Fred Jackson had two yards. Punter Jon Ryan even had four yards rushing on a fake punt.
Lynch — who missed the previous nine games with an injury — averaged 3.8 yards per carry when he was healthy. This is his first game back since November 15th.
He’s been practicing with the team for the last two weeks. However, he did not travel with the team last week to Minnesota, as the Seahawks escaped after Blair Walsh missed a 27-yard field goal late in the game.
“Beast Mode” should be the workhorse back for Seattle against the Panthers’ fourth-best run defense. Michael will give the team a change-of-pace back, as he’s a quicker back instead of Lynch’s bounding game.
Jackson is still expected to occupy his limited role as the team’s third-down back. He’s also expected to be the featured back in the backfield when Pete Carroll and Darrell Bevell call passing plays.
This could also be Lynch’s final game with the team if the team is eliminated from the postseason with a loss to the Panthers. The 29-year-old is expected to be released by the team in the off-season as they look to make rookie Thomas Rawls the featured back moving forward.
Rawls is a lot cheaper right now, as Lynch just signed a new contract with the Seahawks last off-season.
Lynch — who came to Seattle in a mid-season trade in 2010 with the Buffalo Bills — had 111 carries this season for 417 yards with three touchdowns. He also had 13 receptions for 80 yards.

The 417 rushing yards were a career-low. He had 450 yards with the Bills in 2009 through 13 games.
From 2011 to 2014, Lynch rushed for more than 1,000-plus yards each season. He had a combined 5,357 yards during that span, including a career-high 1,590 yards in 2012.
