Joe Parsons has won the Winter X Games Snowmobile Freestyle event from Aspen, Colorado. This is his 15th X Games medal overall.
This is his second Snowmobile Freestyle gold medal in his career. He also won on 2009.
“Honestly, I didn’t play it safe and put down the run I wanted (in the first run),” Parsons said to ESPN‘s Jamie Little. “I was waiting on Colton Moore to come out and get the top spot as he has the best tricks out here.”
Fortunately for Parsons, Moore — who won the gold medal last year — crashed on both attempts. Also, before his second run, his team had problems with the tracks on his ride.
It appeared like they were off when he crashed on his second attempt, ending the chance of going back-to-back. He wanted to continue, but had to be in pain or was told to stop.
Moore was 8th after his final round and finished the event in the last position.
Parsons won it off of his first run, as he wasn’t pleased with his second run. After doing a trick, his body language showed that he wasn’t pleased with it.
He continued for a few more, before stopping the run with more time on the clock.
Heath Frisby finished in second place with the silver medal. Frisby did not compete in this event last year and was the bronze medalist in 2014.
This is his best finish at the event. His previous best was third place, which he finished in four times (2007-2009, 2014).
Brett Turcotte — who was making his Winter X Games debut — finished in the third and was the bronze medalist.
