Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning will announce his retirement tomorrow, according to a report. Manning will make the announcement official as he steps away as a two-time Super Bowl winner.
Manning helped lead the Broncos to the Super Bowl 50 win over the Carolina Panthers at Levi Stadium in Feb. The Broncos won 24-10 with a dominant defensive unit.
The story was broken by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, who is currently dealing with cancer. His news conference will be at 1 pm EST/11 am MST.
Last weekend, veteran Denver Post writer Woody Paige broke the news that Manning would retire. However, a short-time later, the team said that he hasn’t informed them of their decision.
With Manning stepping away from the game he loves, he’ll have a variety of options, even though he kept saying that he wanted to continue to play for the past week. He’ll have an opportunity to join the broadcast booth for CBS or Fox, or join their Sunday NFL shows. ESPN’s Sunday Countdown is expected to make a run at him too.
They recently added Charles Woodson after he announced his retirement. With ESPN’s considering replacing Mike Ditka, Manning could take his spot.
If he doesn’t want to do that, he could always join an NFL team’s front office. The Tennessee Titans have long been interested in having him join their front office.
In his NFL career, he went 186-79-0 with the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos. He won a Super Bowl with the Colts and the Broncos.
With the Colts in his 13-years there, he went 4,683 of 7,210 for 54,828 and 399 touchdowns. He also threw a 198 interceptions and was sacked 231 times.
In his four-years with the Broncos, he went 1,443 of 2,170 for 17,112 with a 140 touchdowns. He threw 53 interceptions.
In his final game, Manning went 13 of 23 for a 141 yards and an interception.
He had nine touchdowns and 17 picks through week 10. Then due to injuries, he was replaced by Brock Osweiler, who led the team until Week 17 when Manning came off the bench to replace him and lead the team to a win over the San Diego Chargers in the regular season finale.
With Manning retiring, it gives the Broncos extra money to potentially sign Osweiler, Malik Jackson and Danny Trevathan.
