The Washington Wizards will fire head coach Randy Wittman. He’s expected to be relieved of his duties at the end of the season.
He’ll be the third head coach to be fired after the season as the Sacramento Kings are expected to fire their head coach George Karl. Also, the Minnesota Timberwolves have already fired their interim head coach Sam Mitchell.

Karl is expected to be let go within the next 24 hours, according to reports. Mitchell was put in a tough position as he took over the team following the death of Flip Saunders.

Wittman guided the Wizards to a .500 record at 41-41 this season — and finished 10th overall in the Eastern Conference. They’ve won their final game, 109-98, over the Atlanta Hawks.
One name being mentioned that’s a serious candidate to take the job is former Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Scott Brooks. He sat out this season, as he tried to get a good job this off-season.
Wittman is let go with one year left on his contract. According to the Washington Post, he was scheduled to make more than $3 million; however, that was not guaranteed.
Since taking over in February 2012 for Saunders, he’s gone 177-199 and took the team to the playoffs the past two seasons. They were expected to get there again this year before things began to fall apart.
John Wall, the Wizards star player, and Jared Dudley reportedly questioned Wittman throughout the season. But they didn’t have the power of LeBron James, who got David Blatt fired earlier this season.
Marcin Gortat also has a strained relationship with Wittman, according to reports, after he was called out following a blowout loss to the Thunder in November.
“It was tough,” Wall said. “Because at times when you have nine guys on one-year deals, everybody wanted the last word, every[body] wanted the last say-so.”

The reason why Brooks is being mentioned is because the Wizards would like to bring home Kevin Durant. KD, as he is commonly known, is a free agent this summer — and there have been reports that he doesn’t want to go back home to play in the Washington, D.C. area.
“He’s been here (as an assistant or head coach) every year I’ve been in the NBA. He’s helped me become a better player, improving me as a person. And just as he has been coaching us, we became a better defensive team. We made the playoffs because of him,” Wall said. “He’s doing the best he can with the group of guys he has out there.”
