The Philadelphia Eagles believe that Carson Wentz is the real deal – and they’ve been targeting him for quite some time. But this time of year, it is a smoke screen or the truth?

Wentz is expected to go within the Top 2 picks of this year’s NFL Draft. He could be drafted by the Eagles if they have their way.

Since they believe that he’s going to be a franchise quarterback, they’re going to make every effort to acquire the second-overall pick from the Cleveland Browns. The Browns may be able to get a good package for the pick if it’s every indication of what the Titans got for the top pick.

Doug Pederson, the Eagles’ head coach, would have to convince Howie Roseman, the Eagles personnel guy, to give up picks and potentially players to get any deal done. The Browns are also considering Goff over Wentz, like the Rams.

Earlier today, Wentz had a pre-draft workout with the Rams. But the Eagles have spent more time with Wentz than any other player, according to NJ.com.

They’ve met with him eight times — twice each at the Senior Bowl, at the NFL Combine, in North Dakota, and in Philadelphia. Is this smoke, or the truth?

You have to consider anything NFL teams are saying leading up to the draft with a grain of salt. Some of the information that teams put out there is smoke to mask the true identity of the player that they really want.

If this is true though, Bradford and Chase Daniel — who signed with the team in the off-season from the Kansas City Chiefs — may be short-lived as Wentz would be the long-term answer. The Eagles haven’t had a franchise quarterback since Andy Reid drafted Donovan McNabb with the second overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft.
