After the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 98-97 win over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 2 on Monday evening, NBA officials have admitted that Dion Waiters should have been called for an offensive foul after shoving Manu Ginobili. This happened during a key inbound play in the final moments of the game.

Ken Mauer, the lead referee, released a statement after the game. He said that they missed the call and the Spurs should have been awarded the ball.

“On the floor, we did not see a foul on the play,” he told Rivard Report’s Mike Monroe. “However, upon further review, we realize and we agree that we should have had an offensive foul on the play. It’s a play that we have never seen before, ever, but we feel we should have had an offensive foul on Waiters.”

In the wild sequence that took place, Ginobili was trying to stop Waiters’ inbound pass. The 38-year-old even was so close to Waiters that he stepped out of bounds, which should have resulted in a technical foul — which also wasn’t called.

Waiters used an elbow in an attempt to create space between the two. After getting some space, he passed the ball to Kevin Durant, who was then stripped by Danny Green.

Patty Mills airballed a three-pointer, and the Spurs were not able to get another shot off, which sealed the Thunder win.
