We’re just a few hours from the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 at the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In this story, we’re going to pick our winner of the race.

So far this season, there have been three winners. Simon Pagenaud has won the past three races, while Juan Pablo Montoya won the season opener and Scott Dixon won the race in Phoenix.

Anything can happen in the biggest race of the year for these drivers. It’s been years since a non-full-timer won the race.

Since that’s the case, we’re going to pick one of the full-timers to win the race. This individual hasn’t drank the milk and kissed the bricks in a long-time.

We’re picking Hélio Castroneves to win the race. He hasn’t won it since the 2009 season when he won from the pole.

The 41-year-old Brazilian is a three-time winner of the race. And he has three top five finishes this season, even though he doesn’t have a win.

He was second to Pagenaud in the last race earlier this month in the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis. If he did win, it’ll snap a long winless streak, as he hasn’t recorded a win since the 20014 season.

The Spiderman would get his 30th career win if he can make our prediction correct. His last good finish at this race was in 2014 when he finished second to Ryan Hunter-Reay, whose the last American to win it.

He’s the only active driver with three wins and if Montoya can end a long winless streak (15-years — he raced in NASCAR for a long-time before coming back to IndyCar), then Castroneves can pick up another Borg Warner Trophy.
