According to The Players Tribune, free agent Kevin Durant is expected to sign with the Golden State Warriors. He said that this was a tough decision.

He is expected to sign a two-year deal with the Warriors, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein. He will be paid $54.3 million.

This is a “LeBron deal,” as it includes a player option following the first season.

“The primary mandate I had for myself in making this decision was to have it based on the potential for my growth as a player — as that has always steered me in the right direction,” Durant wrote. “But I am also at a point in my life where it is of equal importance to find an opportunity that encourages my evolution as a man: moving out of my comfort zone to a new city and community that offers the greatest potential for my contribution and personal growth.

“With this in mind, I have decided that I am going to join the Golden State Warriors.”

ESPN is now reporting that reigning MVP Stephen Curry will now be the fourth-highest-paid player on the team. Durant will be the highest-paid player once he officially signs with the team.

Then, Klay Thompson would be next at $16.6 million. Draymond Green will be third at $15.3 million. Curry has a $12.1 million salary for the upcoming season before becoming a free agent after next season.

Durant averaged 28.2 points per game in his final season with the Thunder. He spent the first nine years of his career with the Seattle SuperSonics/Thunder organization before leaving.

He also averaged 8.2 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game.

To add Durant, the Warriors will renounce the rights to Harrison Barnes, who then will become a free agent. Golden State has to clear cap space before they can officially add one of the Top 5 players in the league.

There is some speculation that Barnes may sign as a free agent with the Dallas Mavericks once the new league year starts.

The Mavericks will also acquire Andrew Bogut from the Warriors once the league year opens. He will be paid $11 million for the upcoming season.

The Warriors will have to make additional moves that will free up additional cap space. But Golden State believes that they can make it work to add Durant.
