The New York Jets have re-signed quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to a one-year deal. He’ll make $12 million during the 2016 season.
Fitzpatrick will report to training camp tomorrow when the Jets camp starts. He was hanging out by the facility today as Jets players report.
With this new contract, he’ll regain his starting job. Earlier on Wednesday, Jets players were saying that Geno Smith was their starter.
He guided the Jets to a 10-6 season; however, the team missed out on the playoffs. Like Brandon Marshall, their star wide receiver, Fitzpatrick has never played in a playoff game.
In March, his representatives were telling the Jets that he wanted a contract starting at $16 million per season. The Jets thought that was insane and the next month spent a draft pick on Christian Hackenberg.
They moved on with Smith as the proclaimed starter until this evening’s announcement.
Marshall can also be credited with getting this deal done as the two, along with Fitzpatrick’s sons met in Chicago.
