There’s new details about the American swimmers incident in Brazil. Earlier this morning, ABC News’ Matt Gutman said that the four fabricated the story.

At first, it was reported early Sunday morning that they were robbed at gunpoint. As the days went on, the authorities haven’t found much evidence for their initial claims.

The swimmer, who hasn’t been identified yet, refused and then got into a fight with the guard. According to ABC News, there’s video evidence showing the altercation.

“I do not regret having apologized,” International Olympic Committee spokesman Mario Andrada said. “No apologies from him or other athletes are needed. We have to understand that these kids came here to have fun. Let’s give these kids a break.

“Sometimes you make decisions that you later regret. They had fun, they made a mistake, life goes on.”

On Sunday, Ryan Lochte, who is the highest-profile of the four, and Jimmy Feigen were questioned. Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger were the other two with Lochte and Feigen during the incident.

Bentz and Conger tried to fly home to the States last night when they were pulled off their flight by Brazilian authorities. They then questioned the Americans — who reportedly said nothing before agreeing to speak with them again on Thursday.

Feigen, Bentz and Conger are still in Brazil, while Lochte escaped and got to the States before his passport could be pulled.

The four Americans could face serious criminal charges, depending on what happens with this case. Reporting a false police report is a serious offense anywhere — and will reportedly cause the individual to receive a three-year jail sentence in Brazil.

The judge could also reportedly order them to never come back to the country. Since they are young, that’ll be a long-time.
