According to Yahoo Sports, Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger have been released after speaking with the Brazilian authorities. They were detained on Wednesday after trying to fly back to the United States.

The Associated Press is reporting that Bentz and Conger will not be able to leave until they provide testimony about the alleged robbery that’s become national news. Early Sunday morning, Ryan Lochte said he was with Bentz, Conger, and Jimmy Feigen when they were allegedly robbed at gunpoint.

On Wednesday, the authorities said that there were discrepancies between the information that Lochte and Feigen were saying. In addition, the two were given different stories on what were allegedly stolen.

Lochte’s allegations caused the Olympics to amp up security around the athletes. But they started to question his account in the past few days, according to reports.

Feigen will reportedly speak with the authorities in the country where he still is. However, Lochte is back home in the States.

“(Bentz and Conger) were released by local authorities with the understanding that they would continue their discussions about the incident on Thursday,” the United States Olympic Committee spokesperson Patrick Sandusky said. “James Feigen is also communicating with local authorities and intends to make further statements regarding the incident on Thursday as well.”

At press time, we do not know what the ramifications will be. Or if the Brazilian authorities would let the swimmers go with a slap on the wrist with this story.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens next.
