According to the University of Iowa Athletic Department, football student-athlete Nick Wilson was cited on Sat. night by Iowa City law enforcement. Wilson is a redshirt freshman.
However, according to the release, he’s not among the 105 players, who are taking part in preseason camp. It’s not clear why he’s not participating when the release said he was a football student-athlete.
He redshirted last season after graduating from West Des Moines Dowling High School.
Officials in the Athletic Department are gathering facts from the incident and will not have another comment until the investigation is complete. He’s still subject to the university protocol regarding to the UI student life code of conduct.
He also has to go through the team rules and regulations set by members of the football team, the school said.
According to Marc Morehouse, Wilson was charged with an OWI and driving with a suspended license.
He was supposed to be the third outside linebacker on the depth chart.
