Throughout the college football season, there are at least several teams — who score at least seven or eight touchdowns in a game. However, before Saturday night, it was rare for a player to do that by himself.

Arizona State running back Kalen Ballage has done exactly that against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Kliff Kingsbury — the Red Raiders head coach — had to be confused how to stop the back in the Sun Devils 68-55 win.

Ballage is performing his magic on Fox Sports 1 at the moment from Sun Devil Stadium. He broke the school record when he scored his sixth touchdown.

“It wasn’t me — it was God and my offensive linemen,” Ballage said in an on-field interview after the game.

The junior running back set the new Pac-12 Conference record. The Peyton, Colorado native tied an NCAA mark with his performance.

Ballage’s record-tying performance ties former Illinois Fighting Illini back Howard Griffith, who had eight touchdowns in a game in 1990.

He has scored all of his touchdowns since the second quarter. It began when he scored a one-yard touchdown at 13:17 in the second.

“These guys right here, every single one of them, they go to work,” Ballage said.

All of his scores have come on the ground. While the first seven have been from 10 yards or fewer, his eighth touchdown was for 75 yards, which increased the Sun Devils lead to 65-48.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, Ballage and Griffith are not the College Football players to score 48 points in a game. In 2012, Dominique Carson scored 48 points for Division III’s Sul Ross State.

In 1994, Carey Bender scored 48 points in a game for Division III’s Coe College. In 1968, Paul Zaeske scored 48 points for Division II’s North Park.

Junior Wolfe was the first to do it. He had 48 points in a Division II game for Oklahoma Panhandle in 1958.
