Sometimes video game numbers happen in real life. Just ask Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The Red Raiders star accounted for an FBS record 819 yards in a loss to the Oklahoma Sooners at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas. He had 734 passing yards in the game.
Mahomes helped the team have 854 yards overall. He also tied the NCAA record for the most passing yards in a game, as he tied former Washington State Cougars quarterback Connor Halliday.

“We were like, ‘Wow, OK,’” defensive end James McFarland told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “My initial thinking was, ‘Ok, 800 yards. How many games are 800 yards?’”
The Sooners may have won this game. But this game will be best remembered for its high-scoring outcome.
Both teams accounted for an NCAA record of 1,708 yards.
Halliday had his 734 passing yards on October 5th, 2014, against the Cal Bears. Both Halliday and Mahomes broke the previous record of former Houston Cougars quarterback David Klinger, who had the previous mark of 716 passing yards in 1990 against the Arizona State Sun Devils in Tokyo, Japan.
This is the first college game in which Mahomes threw for 700 or more yards. However, he has had two previous games, where he surpassed 500 yards.

He had 540 passing yards in a loss to the Sun Devils on September 10th. Mahomes also had 504 passing yards in a loss to the Kansas State Wildcats on October 8th.
