“There were a lot of moments, but anything in life you have to work for it,” Johnson said. “It’s not going to come easy, and we knew that coming into this race. There are so many challenges with this track. I’m so thankful for this race team. To win on this weekend at this track with the tragedy we had in ’04, we’re thinking of all the loved ones that we lost in the plane crash.”

Alliance Truck Parts-sponsored driver Brad Keselowski was the second-place finisher. FedEx Freight-sponsored driver Denny Hamlin was the third-place finisher.

“It was a good day for us, not the win,” Keselowski said. “I think we had the speed capable to pull it off, but still a really strong day. The car was good. The team executed really well, we just kind of missed out on the racing Gods today. We have a lot to be proud of, a great effort, and showed that we’re still a strong team, if not the strongest in the garage, and I’m really proud of that.”

Johnson was the top playoff driver, while Hamlin was third. Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch rounded out the Top 5.

Joey Logano was the ninth-place finisher. Kevin Harvick finished 20th, and Kurt Busch was 22nd.

Carl Edwards was the worst of the bunch with a 36th-place finish.

Kenseth led the most laps with 176. Martin Truex Jr. was the only other driver who led more than 100 laps, as he led 147 laps.

Johnson, Hamlin, Logano, Kyle Larson, A.J. Allmendinger, Kyle Busch, and Regan Smith led multiple laps.

With the win, Johnson now leads the driver’s championship standings with 4,044 points. Hamlin and Kenseth are now tied at 4,039 points, which is five points behind Johnson.
