Norv Turner has resigned as the Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator. The Vikings offense has struggled in the past few weeks after starting the season 5-0.

Turner will be replaced by Pat Shurmer, who was promoted from his tight ends position job. Shurmur is already familiar with Sam Bradford, where the two were last season.

Bradford also had one of his best games of the season in his final game with the Philadelphia Eagles with Shurmur as interim head coach. In their last two games under Turner, the Vikings have scored a combined 20 points.

“I have tremendous respect for (head coach) Mike Zimmer, our coaching staff and our players and this time I think it is in the best interest of the team to step down,” he said. “I thank the Wilf family for my time here in Minnesota and want to see our players and coaches achieve success.”

The team is 31st in total offense of 32 teams in the NFL. They’re averaging 293.3 yards per game, while also averaging 19.9 points per game (23rd in the league).

Turner has been the Vikings offensive coordinator since being hired by his friend in 2014. Following their loss to the Eagles, Zimmer criticized the offensive line.

“We didn’t block anybody,” he said. “We were soft. We got overpowered.”

The Vikings are 1st in the NFC North. They’re 3-2 against the NFC and 1-1 in the NFC North. Both of their losses have come on the road.

“He’s been my right-hand man since I’ve been here,” Zimmer said.

“I didn’t think it was going to work with me, so I removed myself,” Turner added.
