The Toronto Blue Jays signed free agent DH and first baseman Kendrys Morales to a three-year, $33 million contract. It is official a week after it was reported.
Morales had a .277 batting average with 52 home runs and a 199 RBI’s in the last two seasons with the Kansas City Royals. This is a safety valve in case free agent first baseman Edwin Encarnación leaves this off-season.
The New York Yankees and the Atlanta Braves are interested in Encarnación. Fox Sports Baseball Insider Ken Rosenthal reported that he re-signed with the Blue Jays for five-years and more than a $140 million — but it later turned out that Rosenthal’s tweet was wrong and was later deleted.
Morales is expected to be the team’s designed hitter next season.
