The Virginia Cavaliers have dismissed Austin Nichols from the basketball team. It’s unclear what he did to cause his dismissal.

Nichols was suspended for the team’s two preseason scrimmages. Then, he missed the season opener at UNC Greensboro Spartans on Nov. 11.

“It’s a privilege to be a part of this program and Austin has lost that privilege,” head coach Tony Bennett said. “We have standards for our student-athletes and when those standards aren’t met, there are consequences and this is the unfortunate consequence.”

He only played one game for the Cavaliers after his transfer from the Memphis Tigers. On Nov. 15 against the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers, he had 11 points and three rebounds.

Nichols missed the 2015-16 following his transfer from the Tigers.
