According to sources, San José State head football coach Ron Caragher will not return. The team was 4-8 this season.
In four seasons at the school, he had two six-win seasons. That also including a 2015 bowl win, but they’ve went 19-30 in his tenure there.

In the 2015 Cure Bowl — which took place at the Orlando Citrus Bowl — the Spartans won 27-16 over the Georgia State Panthers. Both head coaches from this game have been fired this off-season.

Caragher took over for Mike MacIntyre, who is the Colorado Buffaloes head coach. He’s turned the Buffs program into a Top 10 team this year.
He took over for MacIntyre a week after the Spartans went 10-2 in 2012.
He also replaced Jim Harbaugh — the current Michigan Wolverines head coach — when he left the San Diego Toreros to become the Stanford Cardinal head coach in 2007. He went 44-22 at the FCS school in six years.

The 49-year-old had a year left on his five-year deal. He is still owed $525,000 by the school.
With the Spartans, they haven’t finished better than second in the West Division in the Mountain West Conference.
With this decision to fire Caragher, it is not clear at press time if the coach will decide to take some time away from the game. Or if he will try to find another job immediately with another program in the coming weeks to months ahead.
