A Knox County Grand Jury is expected to hear the case of William Riley Gaul, the former Maryville College wide receiver, who allegedly shot to death his ex-girlfriend Emma Jane Walker. The 16-year-old, the law enforcement authorities, allege was shot by Gaul while she was sleeping in her own bed in November.

In a court hearing on Friday, he waived his right to a preliminary hearing. The case has now been handed over to a Grand Jury, which will then determine his feat.

Gaul is charged with first-degree murder of the former Central High School cheerleader. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office believes that Gaul shot into her room, knowing that she was in the house, then they said he jumped a fence and fired into the house again.

The two were reportedly in a relationship together, before it was broken off. The investigators have called it an ‘ongoing tumultuous relationship.’

Walker was a popular student at Central — and was honored by her classmates on Friday. There has even been a crowdfunding effort set up to help her family with funeral expenses.
