According to the San Francisco 49ers, head coach Chip Kelly‘s father had died. They did not reveal any details, or if it actually happened on Sunday.

General manager Trent Baalke made an announcement following the team’s 26-6 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. During his press conference, Kelly made no mention that his father passed away when he met with the media.

Kelly will take some time off to be with his family. How long? Who really knows.

The team said their “thoughts and prayers” are with their head coach at this time. He could potentially miss their game with the New York Jets next Sunday.

“Chip has our continued support as he mourns the passing of his father,” the team said.
