The 2016 Heisman Trophy is this Saturday in New York City. The race was once considered to be a run away earlier this season.

However, after the Louisville Cardinals have lost their past two games, Lamar Jackson’s lead has taken a hit. If he wins on Saturday night, he’ll be the first player since 1987 to lose their past two games and have a Heisman winner, like Tim Brown did.

The now wide open race includes Clemson Tigers quarterback DeShaun Watson. He was the third-place finisher last year.

Watson is considered to finish in the top two this year. Did leading the Tigers to a win over the Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday nigh in the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla.? We’ll have to see.

Jabrill Peppers, the East Orange, N.J. native, is also a candidate. He’s played multiple positions this season for the Michigan Wolverines, even though he’s primarily a defensive player.

He once played high school football at Paramus Catholic High School, not too far from New York City. No defensive player had won since 1997 when Michigan’s Charles Woodson won the award.

The final two candidates come from the Oklahoma Sooners. Baker Mayfield and Dede Westbrook are those finalists.

Mayfield was the fourth finalist last year; however, he wasn’t invited to New York City.
