Sources: Jabrill Peppers to declare for the NFL Draft

According to multiple sources, Michigan Wolverines utility player Jabrill Peppers will forgo his senior year. The East Orange, N.J. native will enter the 2017 NFL Draft, the sources indicated.

Peppers will be playing in his final collegiate game on Friday night. The Wolverines faces the Florida State Seminoles in the Orange Bowl on ESPN at 8 pm EST.

The Heisman Trophy candidate is expected to be a first-round draft pick. According to CBSSports.com’s latest Mock Draft, Peppers is slated to go to the Philadelphia Eagles with the 15th overall pick. That is the pick the Eagles acquired from the Minnesota Vikings in their trade for Sam Bradford.

In the second-half of the season, the Eagles defense struggled. The natural playmaker can play linebacker, safety, cornerback and be a returner.

Peppers has 72 tackles, 4.0 sacks, an interception and a pass deflection on the season. He finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy balloting but won the Lott IMPACT Trophy and the Paul Hornung Award.

When Peppers is drafted, he’ll be the first-person drafted by the Paramus Catholic Paladins football team in the NFL Draft. Anthony DiCosmo went undrafted in the 1999 NFL Draft after playing college football with the Boston College Eagles.

There are 12 players, who played in the NFL from East Orange, N.J. Peppers would be the 13th player. Only three players played in more than a 100 games – William “Billy” Ard (148 in 11-years), John Hill (178 in 14-years) and Robert Burnett (203 in 14-years).

David Garrard, the former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback, played in 87 games for the fourth-most.

There were seven players, who were drafted from New Jersey, in the 2016 NFL Draft. Eli Apple went to the New York Giants with the 10th overall pick after playing for the Ohio State Buckeyes and played high school football at Eastern Senior High School in Voorhees.

Austin Johnson went in the second round by the Tennessee Titans after playing college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions. He played high school football at St. Augustine Prep in Richland.

Shilique Calhoun and Leonté Carroo went in the third-round respectively. Calhoun went to the Oakland Raiders after playing for the Michigan State Spartans. He attended Middletown North High School in Middletown.

Carroo went to the Miami Dolphins after playing college football with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. He played high school football with Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey.

Tajae Sharpe and Matt Ioannidis went in the fifth-round. Sharpe went to the Titans after playing college football with the Massachusetts Minutemen. He played high school football at Piscataway High School in Piscataway.

Ioannidis went to the Washington Redskins after playing college football with the Temple Owls. He played high school football at Hunterdon Central Regional High School in Flemington.

Devin Fuller went in the seventh-round to the Atlanta Falcons after playing college football with the UCLA Bruins. He played at Northern Valley Regional High School in Demarest, N.J.
