Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden has reportedly fired his entire defensive staff, according to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason LaCanfora. A few days ago, the Redskins missed out on the playoffs.

Most notably, Joe Berry, who was the defensive coordinator, has been rumored to go for quite some time. The defense struggled against both the pass and run game.

Berry was with the team for both years. Previously, there was a report that if Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis would retire, Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther would come to the Redskins.

Now, with Lewis staying on – at least for another season – it’s going to be hard to believe that he would let Guenther walk now to join his friend in Washington.

By firing his entire defensive staff, it would let his new defensive coordinator bring in his own staff. Even though Gruden is an offensive coach, he has to straighten up his defense, or his time in Washington will be limited.
