According to Paul Millsap, he has been informed by the Atlanta Hawks that he is staying put. Millsap has been mentioned as a trade candidate in the past few weeks.
On Monday, the Hawks reportedly began to tell teams that he is not available.
“Now everybody can stop talking about it,” Millsap said. “I can stop thinking about it and just focus on basketball.”
When Kyle Korver was first talked about being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers — before officially being traded to the team on Saturday — Millsap was reportedly next. However, he said he would like to stay with the team, even when the Sacramento Kings and the Los Angeles Lakers reportedly had the most interest.
He can opt out of his contract this summer. And with the way money was thrown around with big-money contracts last summer, Millsap would likely opt-out and try to get that money.
Millsap reportedly would like to be with the team beyond this season.
“Oh yeah, absolutely,” he said. “For me and my team, for us to really do something, I think that all the rumors (have) got to stop. I think we are at a good place right now during the season and our main focus is basketball and winning and winning big.”
The Hawks lead the Southeast Division with a 21-16 record. They are fourth overall in the Eastern Conference.
