William Riley Gaul has been indicted by a Knox County grand jury after he was accused in a fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend. The 16-year-old girlfriend broke off the relationship, but he was reportedly obsessed with her.

Gaul was facing a seven-count indictment following his November arrest in the shooting death of Emma Jane Walker. The charges include first-degree murder, aggravated stalking and tampering with evidence.

He reportedly shot her through her bedroom window while she was sleeping at night. He could not get off the fact that the former cheerleader did not want him in her life anymore.

The indictment alleges that Gaul stalked Walker in the beginning of October, which was returned on Wednesday. He even allegedly stole a gun from his grandfather to kill her.

The then-couple initially met at Central High School, where he played football and basketball, before he graduated in 2016. Last fall, he attended Maryville College and was a wide receiver on the team.

According to Knox News, Walker ended her relationship with Gaul weeks before the shooting. The newspaper even suggested that he considered suicide — his family members allege — in the days before he allegedly shot Walker, the search warrant said.

Gaul allegedly stole the gun used in the crime on Nov. 18 when he changed vehicles with his grandfather James Walker. Then, when they exchanged cars again, the gun was missing.

The gun in question was not reported missing, according to the police, until Nov. 20, two days afterward. The next day, Gaul reportedly shot Walker, before being found by her parents that morning.

Prior to his arrest, he used Twitter to express his love for her. He reportedly said on Twitter, two weeks before shooting her, “I’d do anything to have it all back.”

Gaul, according to the indictment, attempted to ditch the gun. Almost immediately, law enforcement authorities knew Gaul was the alleged gunman and closed in on him at the Woodland Apartments.

Gaul has a $1 million bond.
