The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired defenseman Ron Hainsey. In exchange, the Carolina Hurricanes acquired forward Danny Kristo and a second-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.

The Penguins will pay 50% of Hainsey’s contract.

The 35-year-old Hainsey played in 300 games with the Hurricanes. That’s the 10th-most by a defenseman since the team moved to North Carolina.

This is his 14th season — and he has 250 points in 891 career NHL games.
