For the second straight race, Matt Hagan hoisted the Wally at the end of the race weekend. Hagan is undefeated on the season after defeating his teammate in the final round.
Hagan went 3.878 at 330.88 in his Sandvik Coromant Dodge Charger R/T. Ron Capps, the reigning Funny Car champion, went 3.883 at 330.88 mph in his NAPA Auto Parts Dodge Charger R/T.
“It’s just great,” he said. “We got ourselves a hotrod right now. The car is running strong. My lights are on point right now. I’m just feeling it, feeling this car, this race team. We’re just digging. Everybody is working hard.
“The car is going down the race track every lap. How much more could you ask for. It’s a great feeling to crawl in the car knowing that you have the confidence that it’s going to run strong and then when your lights are good, it’s a real hard combination to beat.”
This is Hagan’s second win at this facility, as he also won this event in 2015. He also won the season-opener at the 57th annual National Hot Rod Association’s Circle K Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Calif.
Hagan defeated Cruz Pedregon in the first-round. Then, defeated 2016 winner Tim Wilkerson and No. 1 qualifier Tommy Johnson Jr. in the semi-finals.
