The New England Patriots have made up their mind on back-up quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots will not trade their young signal-caller.
With Tom Brady going into his age-40 season, the Patriots have one more season of Garoppolo for cheap. Then, after the 2017 season, they’ll have to make a decision once again.
Garoppolo would be a free agent and the Patriots hope to sign Brady to a new deal during that time, as well. Even if Garoppolo leaves following one more season, Jacoby Brissett would then be the back-up.
The Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers were all interested in acquiring Garoppolo as their new starting quarterback. Now these teams will have to go in a different direction as they look to find their next starting quarterback.
