Sam Eggington knocked out Paulie Malignaggi in the eighth round of their title fight at the O2 Arena in London, England. Eggington won the vacant WBC International welterweight title.

This is the fifth-time that Malignaggi (36-8) was knocked out in a bout. He’s lost eight times in his career.

Malignaggi lost for the first-time in his past four fights. Danny Garcia was the last to knock him out at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on August 2015.

Eggington has won his past three fights, all by knockout. This was the first-time that Eggington fought at the O2 Arena.

Malignaggi is now 1-1 at the O2 Arena. Besides this loss, he won a unanimous decision over Antonio Moscatiello in December 2015.

He was fighting in the United Kingdom, like he has for nearly all of his fights. Only one of his fights came in Dublin, Ireland.
