Like the Pittsburgh Steelers have done with DeAngelo Williams on Wednesday night, the New York Giants have informed former wide receiver Victor Cruz that he will not return. He was released by the team earlier this off-season.
Despite the Giants adding Brandon Marshall, there was speculation that the Giants could still keep the North Jersey native. However, since Cruz was released, he has received very little interest on the open market.
He visited the Carolina Panthers in February. Yet, he went away without signing a contract to be one of Cam Newton’s targets for the 2017 season.
Cruz may have to wait until after April’s NFL Draft to sign with a new team.
After missing the 2015 season, he had 37 receptions for 579 yards and a touchdown. He missed five games during the 2016 season.
His best game of the season came in Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints at MetLife Stadium. He had four receptions for 91 yards. He had the touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in the season-opener when he had four receptions for 34 yards and the score.
