The Huskies lost 66-64 in overtime. This loss snapped their 111-game win streak — which was the longest win streak ever in college basketball.
The Huskies tied the game at 26.6 seconds following a flagrant 1. Katie Lou Samuelson made both free throws to toe the game at 64 –and the Huskies got the ball.
However, they made a mistake late when they could have had the final possession. A Huskies player took a shot with approximately 13 seconds left.
The Bulldogs will now face the South Carolina Gamecocks. The National Championship will be the first-time in five-years that the Huskies will not be the champions.
It’s also an all-Southeastern Conference Championship game. South Carolina won both games this season.
Mississippi State comes into their final showdown with a 34-4 record. South Carolina is 32-4.
One season ago, the Huskies dismantled the Bulldogs with a 60-point win. It is the biggest win in regional semifinal history.
Victoria Vivians led the Bulldogs with 19 points. She also had four rebounds.
The Bulldogs had 12 bench points. Chinwe Okorie led the bench with seven points.
Gabby Williams led the Huskies with 21 points. She also had eight rebounds, two assists, four blocks, and two steals.
Crystal Dangerfield had the Huskies lone bench point.
