Following the NXT TakeOver: Orlando, Drew McIntyre revealed to ESPN that he was signing with the WWE NXT brand. The 31-year-old returns to his former employer after several years away.
He was on the main roster from 2009 through 2014. He was initially known as “The Chosen One,” then was involved in several storylines before ending his first stint as a member of 3MB.
That run ended when he was released. Now, he has his sights on Bobby Roode, the NXT Champion.
“Why wouldn’t I be here at NXT TakeOver?,” McIntyre said. “I don’t know if you have been following me the past few years, or what I’ve done. I’ve traveled the world and won every championship there is to win. What is the next logical step? Where the best superstars are in the world with the top prize the NXT Championship. And that’s exactly what I want.
“If that’s not clear enough, Drew McIntyre has signed with NXT.”
When he was previously in the WWE, he was in the championship picture. However, it was never for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
He was previously the WWE Intercontinental Championship once. McIntyre was also the WWE Tag Team Championship holder with Cody Rhodes.
He’s won the Heavyweight Championship for multiple promotions. He even won it once as the TNA World Heavyweight Championship in Impact Wrestling.
He was in Orlando, Fla. as he performed in EVOLVE 80, EVOLVE 81 and WrestleCon SuperShow 2017.
