This is the second straight year that the Tar Heels have played in the National Championship game. Last year, they suffered heartbreak, as Kris Jenkins made a game-winning basket to give the Villanova Wildcats the championship.

Gonzaga is appearing in their first National Championship game. This is also their first Final Four, as it took Mark Few, head coach, 18 years to reach this point.

The Tar Heels — one of the most historic teams in college basketball — previously won the NCAA Tournament in 1957, 1982, 1993, 2005, and 2009. They were also tournament runner-ups in 1946, 1968, 1977, 1981, and the aforementioned 2016.

Few has guided the Bulldogs to the NCAA tournament two previous times in 1999 and then in 2015. The West Coast Conference team finally broke through to get to the title game after struggling to get to this point.

This is the third meeting all-time between the two teams. However, this will be their first meeting since March 27th, 2009, when North Carolina won 98-77.

Gonzaga won the initial meeting on November 22nd, 2006, when the Zags won 82-74.

The Bulldogs have won their last eight games, including five in the NCAA March Madness Tournament. They have not lost since they were defeated by the BYU Cougars 79-71 on February 25th, 2017.

The Tar Heels are on a five-game win streak, all in the NCAA March Madness Tournament. They have not lost since they were defeated on March 10th by their arch-rival, Duke Blue Devils, 93-83, in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.

Prediction: North Carolina 85-76
