The Baltimore Orioles are expected to sign free agent pitcher Edwin Jackson. The deal will become official once he passes his physical.
He’s expected to go through extended Spring Training, as the Major League season has already begun. Orioles manager Buck Showalter will then have to make a decision once he’s done with that.
They could either use him as a bottom-of-the-rotation starter. Or they could use him as depth in the bullpen.
Should he reach the Major Leagues, he could earn $2.45 million. The deal is also expected to have a June 1 opt-out date.
The 33-year-old has struggled in recent years. He has had a 5.33 ERA in 455 2/3 innings since signing with the Chicago Cubs prior to the 2013 season.
His fastball clocked out at 91.7 mph, which declined from recent years, where it was clocked at 93 mph.
