Nationals release Jeremy Guthrie

Prior to their season finale with the Philadelphia Phillies, the Washington Nationals have announced that they have released starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie. In a corresponding move, the called up right-handed pitcher Matt Albers from Triple-A Syracuse. 

Guthrie, on his birthday on Saturday, gave up 10 first inning runs to the Phillies. They went on to score two more runs prior to the first inning coming to an end.
