Phil Jackson is one of the greatest coaches in NBA history. However, as an NBA executive, it has been questionable at best.
Jackson guided the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers to 11 NBA Championships. He was hoping to bring that same mentality to the New York Knicks franchise.

Jackson – who reportedly received a two-year contract extension secretly – wants the team to use the triangle offense. Derek Fisher – who played under Jackson with the Lakers and won multiple Championships with him – was the head coach of the Knicks last season.

The aging Jackson reportedly attempted to get Fisher and his coaching staff to run the offensive system.
Jeff Hornacek – the Knicks’ current head coach – has been doing his own thing with the way he coaches. However, according to reports, Jackson attempted to get the former guard to run the offense late in the season.
According to reports, this attempt failed miserably.
“Inside and outside the Knicks, people see a franchise in disrepair: Jackson’s open war with Anthony, the failed trade for Derrick Rose, and the $72 million contract albatross of a broken-down Joakim Noah,” Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski said in a tweet. “Players grumble of a support staff that is far more concerned about creating an illusion of hard work with management and ownership than facilitating winning, a media-relations staff that is suffocating and intrusive, and a management/coaching dynamic that’s made Hornacek look like a puppet.”

This past season was Hornacek’s first season with the Knicks. Before accepting their head coaching opportunity, he spent parts of three seasons as the Phoenix Suns head coach.
With the Suns, Hornacek was 101-112. He missed the playoffs in all three seasons in the Desert.

This past season, he also missed the playoffs with the Knicks.
It’ll be interesting to see how this power struggle works out moving forward. Will Hornacek get another chance for next season?
Will Jackson remain in place? Or will owner James Dolan ask the famed coach to step down or fire him?
