International soccer player Amílcar Henríquez was shot and killed in Panama on Saturday. He was killed in the Colón province of the country.
He was leaving his home, according to the law enforcement authorities, when he was gunned down and shot several times. There were two other people, who were wounded, but the authorities, did not say if they were also shot.
After being shot, Henríquez was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Henríquez had been a part of the Panama National Team since 2004. He also appeared in the team’s efforts to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
Against the United States in the qualifying round, he appeared in the games final 20 minutes. The game resulted in a 1-1 draw.
For the Panama National Team, he made 75 appearances. He did not score in any of these games.
After having 22 goals from 2003 to 2012 with Árabe Unido, Santacruceña (on loan) and Atlético Huila, he only had four goals since that time. Two of the goal came with Independiente Anedellín from 2012 to 2014.
He also had a goal in 12 games in 2014 with Árabe Unido. The other goal came with América Cali in 27 games from 2015 to 2016.
