According to a report, former New York Yankees great Álex Rodríguez was offered an opportunity on Wednesday to bid against his former teammate to buy the Miami Marlins. Derek Jeter and Jeb Bush’s group is considered the favorite to buy the Marlins.
Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports that when Rodríquez was offered, he turned it down. He was offered to join the group led by former MLB pitcher Tom Glavine and Tagg Romney.

While Romney failed to get Rodríguez to join his group, it already includes the aforementioned Hall of Famer Glavine and Dave Stewart, the former Arizona Diamondbacks general manager.

Rodríguez is from the Miami area – and when he was released from the Yankees last season, there was speculation that he would join the Marlins. However, that ended quickly when his agent said that he would not play again that season.
He “has dreamed of becoming a major-league owner,” Rosenthal reports. But Rodríguez reportedly told Romney’s group that the “timing was not right.”
This season, Rodríguez is serving as a special advisor to Hal Steinbrenner, the Yankees owner, which were terms of his release from the team last August to complete his contract. In recent years, he has also been a baseball analyst and color commentator for Fox Sports.

Now may not be the right time for Rodríguez to be a sports owner. However, he may pursue this opportunity if the timing and financial terms exist.
While Rodríguez made a ton of money from his baseball career, he would likely have to work with others to purchase a majority stake in any sports team. This is going to take a huge financial backing to do.
